Mastering the Story Builder

A complete walkthrough of every feature for building multi-part stories

The Story Builder is where your ideas become stories. It's designed to give you control over every aspect of the creative process, from initial generation to final polish. Let's explore every feature.

The Interface

The Story Builder is divided into two main sections:

  • Left Panel - Your prompt input, template selector, and length settings
  • Right Panel - Your story parts, with actions for each

Your credit balance is always visible in the top-right, so you know exactly what you're spending.

Starting a Story

Using Templates

Click the Choose a template... dropdown to browse pre-built prompts organized by category. Templates give you a proven structure - just fill in the bracketed placeholders with your own details.

Writing Your Own Prompt

Type or paste your prompt into the text area. Be as detailed as you like - the model responds well to specificity. See our prompt writing guide for tips.

Choosing Length

Select your preferred output length:

  • Short (1 credit) - Quick scenes, focused encounters
  • Medium (2 credits) - Detailed scenes with more development
  • Long (4 credits) - Extended outputs with more depth and detail

Generate Story

Click Generate Story to create your first part. You'll see the text appear in real-time as the AI writes. This becomes "Part 1" of your story.

Building Your Story

Continue Story

After generating Part 1, the Continue Story button becomes available. This adds a new part that flows from your previous content.

Pro tip: Before clicking Continue, add direction in the prompt box. For example:

  • "Now have them move to the bedroom"
  • "Include more dialogue"
  • "Focus on the emotional connection"
  • "Speed up the pacing"

If you leave the prompt empty, the AI will continue naturally based on what came before.

Part Actions

Each story part has action buttons that appear when you hover over it:

Copy

Copies the part's content to your clipboard. Useful for sharing excerpts or pasting into other documents.

Redo

Regenerates the part using the same prompt. Use this when you like your prompt but want a different interpretation. Each Redo costs credits based on your length setting.

Edit

Loads the part's original prompt into the editor. You can modify it and click Replace to regenerate with your changes. This is perfect for refining - maybe you want "more dialogue" or "slower pacing."

+ After

Inserts a new part after this one, pushing later parts down. Use this to add scenes in the middle of your story without regenerating everything that follows.

Managing Your Story

Collapsing Parts

Click on a part's header to collapse or expand it. Collapsed parts show just the first line, making it easier to navigate long stories.

Font Size

Use the A- and A+ buttons to adjust the reading font size. Your preference is saved for future sessions.

Download

Click Download to save your complete story as a text file. All parts are combined in order, with section breaks between them.

Clear

Removes all parts to start fresh. You'll be asked to confirm - this action cannot be undone.

Storage and Privacy

Your stories are stored locally in your browser, not on our servers. This means:

  • Your content is private - we never see or store it
  • Clearing browser data will remove your story
  • Each browser/device has its own separate storage
  • Always download stories you want to keep permanently

Handling Rejections

If your prompt is rejected by our content moderation system, you'll see an error message. If you believe the rejection was a mistake, a prompt will appear offering to report it as a false positive. Your feedback helps us improve moderation to reduce incorrect rejections.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Enter in the prompt box - Generate or Continue
  • Escape - Cancel edit mode
